Storage, health, and cleanup for macOS

Understand your Mac's storage, speed, and overall health.

DiskWise is a native macOS app that scans your drives, scores system health, finds duplicates, cleans caches safely, and explains what to do next — with on-device AI guidance, not cloud uploads.

DiskWise combines disk scanning, system health, safe cleanup, and AI guidance in one sidebar — the same tools you see below ship in every download.

DiskWise Disk Analysis breakdown showing storage by type with a donut chart and deep scan guidance

Disk Analysis

See where your space actually goes — not just a single “Other” bar.

Scan Macintosh HD or any connected drive, then open the Breakdown tab for a clear picture of Applications, Media, Documents, Archives, Caches, and more. The app tells you when a fast scan has only mapped part of your disk and walks you through granting Full Disk Access and running a Deep Scan for fuller coverage.

DiskWise System Optimization dashboard with health score and CPU, memory, and disk pressure

System Optimization

One health score that turns raw numbers into a plain answer.

Instead of guessing whether your Mac is fine, DiskWise gives you a single score — for example Fair (43) — and shows exactly how CPU, memory, and disk headroom contribute. You see live pressure labels like “Low,” “Moderate,” and “High,” plus a rating scale that explains what each band means for everyday use.

  • Disk headroom187.97 GB free · High pressure
DiskWise Memory Analyzer with pressure gauges, trend chart, and suggested actions

Memory Analyzer

Find what is eating RAM — and fix it in one click.

The Memory Analyzer tracks current, average, and peak memory pressure over time, then lists your biggest memory consumers by name and size. When something like Ollama or Chrome is hogging RAM, DiskWise suggests a specific action — restart the app, trim tabs, or focus it — with buttons right in the interface.

DiskWise Apple Intelligence insights summarizing memory state and top consumers

Apple Intelligence

On-device AI that explains your Mac in everyday language.

The Apple Intelligence tab turns live metrics into a readable report: current memory state, recent trends, and a ranked list of apps using the most RAM — with average and peak usage spelled out. You can ask follow-up questions without sending your files to the cloud; analysis stays on your Mac.

Clean My Mac

Targeted cleanup for caches, logs, Trash, and dev clutter.

Choose what to clean from a row of focused categories — App Caches, Browser Caches, Developer Caches, Logs, Temporary Files, Trash, node_modules, Build Artifacts, and more. Tap Scan Now to find reclaimable space, review every item, and move only what you approve to Trash.

Process Usage

See what is slowing your Mac right now.

The Process Usage tab ranks live CPU and memory consumers side by side — WindowServer, Chrome, Ollama, Cursor, and others — with percentages and process IDs when you need detail. Turn on Monitoring to keep an eye on pressure while you work, then hit Re-analyze when you want a fresh health score.

Startup Apps

Speed up boot by reviewing what opens at login.

DiskWise inventories Open at Login items, Dock apps, and Launch Agents, then summarizes how many you could disable or review. Each entry gets a plain recommendation — Keep at login, Optional, or Remove — with one-click actions and a permissions panel that explains why access is needed, all processed locally.

Menu Bar & drives

Keep an eye on every drive from the menu bar.

Choose which volumes appear in the menu bar, optionally show free space and your health score at a glance, and prevent selected drives from sleeping — useful for external storage and NAS mounts. In the screenshot, DiskWise is keeping nine drives awake while monitoring internal and external storage together.

Private by design

Smart recommendations without sending your files to the cloud.

DiskWise reads your storage and system metrics to give you useful answers — like which apps use the most memory or which startup items you can disable. That work happens on your Mac, not on someone else's server.

When you clean up, every action is previewed first and files go to Trash by default so you can recover them. The Activity Log keeps a local history of what DiskWise did, and Settings let you tune scanning limits, notifications, menu bar behavior, and AI options without creating an account.

  • 💻

    Analysis stays on your Mac

Volume scans, health metrics, startup inventories, and cleanup previews are processed locally. Your file contents are not uploaded to a cloud service.

  • 🤖

    On-device AI by default

Apple Intelligence insights and optional Ollama or LM Studio reports run on your machine. You choose the AI provider in Settings — nothing leaves without your setup.

  • 🔒

    Transparent permissions

Full Disk Access and login-item access are requested only when needed, with in-app explanations — like the Startup Apps panel that describes why each permission helps.

Privacy first

Everything in one app

More than a disk chart — DiskWise is your Mac maintenance hub.

The sidebar in DiskWise lists every major tool in plain language. You do not need a separate duplicate finder, cache cleaner, or activity monitor — they are already built in, with AI help when you want a second opinion.

How it works

From first launch to reclaimed gigabytes — with preview and undo at every step.

  1. 1

    Scan & analyze

Pick a drive or cleanup category. DiskWise classifies storage, scores system health, and saves results so you can pick up where you left off — as shown by “Loaded saved scan for Macintosh HD.”

  2. 2

    Review with evidence

Explore breakdown charts, memory trends, duplicate groups, startup recommendations, and AI summaries. Every suggestion links back to real numbers from your Mac.

  3. 3

    Clean safely

Preview reclaimable items, confirm what moves to Trash, and undo if needed. DiskWise never permanently deletes by default — you stay in control.

Scheduled scans

Plan recurring disk scans from the Disk Analysis Schedule tab.

AI you choose

Apple Intelligence on supported Macs, or connect Ollama / LM Studio in Settings.

Saved scan history

Resume prior scans instead of waiting through a full crawl every time.

Simple install

Download the DMG, drag DiskWise to Applications, and launch — standard macOS setup.

Open source

Built in the open. Better with your help.

DiskWise is an open source project. The full macOS app, Swift packages, database layer, and marketing site live on GitHub — inspect the code, run it locally, and shape what comes next.
